fish fry

I think I'm craving fish. {can I really be serious? is this anna jo typing these words?} I might not be craving the taste per se, but I am craving the health benefits. I'm still working on my pre-conceived notions and discriminations towards our fishy friends. they don't really taste that bad. right? I mean, a little lemon really goes a long way. and maybe a cut of salmon cooked well really is tasty? I'm beginning to realize that an open mind--in life as well as fish--really can change our tastes, perceptions of life and the world around us! I'm making some definite strides in my relationship with food lately, so here's to my health!

Woot for fish. I would eat fish every day if I could afford to...and if I actually cooked dinner every night. I'm glad you are learning to love fish. :-)

It's not always the taste though for me! Sometimes its the smell--which I know good fish doesn't smell fishy--but sometimes even by the shore it can smell pretty yucky to me because of the fish and then thats what I associate with fish forevermore--I know, its all in my head. Or sometimes its the texture that I don't like.

But I wish I could like fish. I know its good for me.

About 6 years ago I HATED fish! But my husband loved it...therefore I decided that I was going to make myself learn to like fish.
1st- I made sure that my hubby made the fish(every Sunday), soaking it in lemon for long periods of time, and/or soy sauce, ginger, and honey (which is really good too).
2nd- I would always take the less dense portion so that I could eat it in smaller proportions to my liking.
3rd I just kept at it...I went to a fish fry and had cod, to north Carolina and had Wahoo, then I tried shark (nope haven't learned to like that one yet)...I still dislike squid, oysters, and old fish.
Overall, I consider myself a re-born fish lover...mainly salmon, steelhead, trout and tilapia. I will eat and try all sea food but there still remains some that I cannot like...yet.
Good Luck! Now I actually crave it! And I really like sushi too...(raw fish rolls with rice)with out the seaweed!

You're a better woman than I. I just can't get over my inhibitions & preconceived notions -- I can't even pinpoint my prejudice to smell or taste or whatever; I just don't believe in fish. Plecky, plecky, bleh.

On the other hand -- and this is what makes me so delightfully contradictory ;-) -- when I was in Portugal as a teenager Sis. Battaglia, one of the local church members, made us a dinner of some kind of fish and carrot rice. I didn't feel like I could refuse (how rude would that have been? I didn't want to be the Ugly American!), so I ate it. And asked for seconds. And thirds. It remains to this day one of the *best* meals I've ever eaten.

But in any other circumstance, nope! No thanks. Disgusting. (I'm such a weirdo.)

Go figure. And good for you for consciously working toward that open mind.

Oh, I just remembered: I read somewhere that black beans (or was it avocados? One of those things that I love) have many of the same good healthy properties that fish have. So if you can't bring yourself to eat fish / sea food (I will insist to my dying day that shrimp, crab, lobster, etc. are the cockroaches of the sea!), just have a nice big bowl of black beans! Or avocados. Can't remember precisely which.

sis, for year's every time I ate avocado I would proudly say, "see, I'm eating fish!" but just a little while ago I found out that while avocado does have the good kind of omega-3 fatty acids, they're not the exact same kind of omega-3's as fish. so, the moral of the story, I have to learn to eat fish.

Or you could just forego the fish altogether and just take fish oil capsules! Thats my method!

Pop in mouth. Swig of water. Swallow.

I used to think I didn't like fish either...but my husband convinced me otherwise and now I love it all! Even my kids beg for fish. Start with orange roughy or tilapia...lots of lemon. Salmon is the best off the grill...with lots of dillweed and a little lemon juice. Or go to Market Street and get the restaurant to do the work. Yum!
